luna_moon: A hyena showing its teeth (Freya)
A picture of a denim vest with several patches
Wanted to share a picture of how my denim vest is coming along :] I bought a vest several years ago with the intention of sewing cool patches onto it one day, and finally am getting around to it this year. I used some of my tax return money to get some fun patches on Etsy.

I really love the hyena patch. I was actually thinking about saving it to sew on there once I started hormones as a celebration, but I didn't want to accidentally put any expectations on myself that might make my brain think silly. So instead I chose to sew it on now, and later on I can always embroider my starting date or something on there. I keep "joking" I want to take female Spotted Hyena HRT, so this was a perfect patch.

A crochet shawl, mostly yellow, purple, and green, hung over a wooden fence. The shawl is triangular shaped and has 3 tassels, one at each point.

I finished this shawl up about two weeks ago, but I am finally getting around to taking pictures of it this morning. Teehee.

My LYS mostly focuses on knitting, but there are a few folks there who crochet as well. I was in the other week for a visit and they had a sample piece using this pattern by the front door that I really loved. I was working on this during almost all my free time while I was dealing with a family issue. This is probably the fastest I have finished something in a while at least.

The pattern is called Lost in Time and is available for free. I followed the color guide at the bottom of that post for my own shawl, but using my own colors. I was trying to use up yarns that I already had in my bins. I don't have color names for them, but I know most of these are from Stitch Together. I appreciate that the pattern gave the weights for the yarns being used. I have lots of sock yarn leftovers, since it is my favorite weight to work with. I am always looking for patterns that let me creatively use leftover yarns like this. I picked out a whole bunch of colors to start out with, and started narrowing them down as I added more rows and got an idea of what I liked together. I am very happy with the finished result. It is bright and loud, but I do feel the colors work together in some way. (Maybe it is just me).

I am not upset enough about it to go back and rip out stitches, but I do wish I made this maybe one repeat bigger. I like wearing this like a bandana wrapped around my neck during walks, but unless I tie it, it is constantly falling off my neck and shoulders. I thought the big tassels would give it enough weight to stay wrapped, but I have to either tie it or use a shawl pin of some sorts. Not a big deal, if anything it is probably smaller than it is supposed to be. Tension was kinda tight because of being stressed.

This shawl ends up being perfect for this time of year. It is about 50s-60s most days, and very windy. I really dislike the feeling of wind on my skin (sensory thing I guess), so a shawl like this is just enough to keep the breeze off without over warming me. It will probably be too much once it gets actually warm, but I will still get a lot of use out of this right now.
